Frequently asked questions
Clear answers to the questions we hear most often from victims of online scams, cryptocurrency theft and hacking.
Can stolen crypto be recovered?
A crypto transfer can't be undone like a card payment, but the money leaves a trail, and it can often be followed to an exchange or custodian where law enforcement or a court can have it frozen. In many cases the money is recovered, especially if you act fast. At Kironic we do everything we can to recover your money, and our free case review explains which routes your case has.
Can a crypto scammer be traced?
The money can almost always be followed, because most blockchains are public. Identifying the person behind a wallet usually depends on funds reaching a regulated exchange with KYC, which can then be compelled to disclose information. Our forensic analysis maps that path and documents it for police and lawyers.
I've been scammed: what should I do right now?
Stop sending money, even if you're asked for "fees" or "taxes" to unlock your balance. Save everything: screenshots, chats, wallet addresses, transaction hashes (TXIDs), dates and amounts. Contact your bank or exchange, file a report, then send us your case for a free review.
Where do I report a crypto scam?
In the US, file at ic3.gov (FBI) and ReportFraud.ftc.gov. In the UK, report to the national fraud reporting service (Action Fraud / Report Fraud) and tell your bank. Include TXIDs, addresses and how you were contacted. A forensic tracing report makes your report far more actionable.
Are crypto recovery services legit? How do I spot a recovery scam?
Many are not. The FBI and CFTC warn that "recovery" firms often target people who were just scammed. Red flags: guaranteed recovery, unsolicited contact, upfront fees in crypto or gift cards, claimed links to the FBI/police, or requests for your seed phrase. At Kironic we do everything we can to recover your money, and we will never ask for your keys or seed phrase. We provide the evidence that supports legal action.
What is blockchain forensics and how is a tracing report used?
Blockchain forensics follows funds across wallets, swaps and bridges to find where they ended up, for example a specific exchange. Our technical report explains that trail clearly so your lawyer or law enforcement can request freezes, disclosure orders or file claims.
What is a pig butchering scam?
It's a long-con investment scam. A stranger builds trust (often romantic or friendly) over weeks, steers you to a fake trading platform showing fake profits, then blocks withdrawals and demands more "fees". If this sounds familiar, stop paying, keep all evidence and request a free case review.
My wallet was hacked or my seed phrase was stolen: what now?
Assume the wallet is permanently compromised. Move any remaining funds to a brand-new wallet with a new seed phrase on a clean device, and revoke suspicious token approvals. Never share your seed phrase with anyone, including "support agents". Record the theft transactions and contact us for a forensic review.
How much does it cost? Is the case review really free?
Yes. The initial case review is free with no obligation. If tracing or a report makes sense, you get a clear written quote before any work starts. If it doesn't, we'll point you to other routes.
Are you a law firm? Do I need a crypto scam lawyer?
No. Kironic is not a law firm. We are blockchain forensics and fraud-analysis specialists. We work with your lawyer, or with independent lawyers we collaborate with, who use our reports for complaints, freezing orders and civil claims.
